UI/Tools

Summary

The LiveLink tool combined with Apple ARKit source doesn’t work properly when trying to apply real-time animations in UEFN. I believe it’s happening since the introduction of LiveLink Hub. It doesn’t apply the facial animation to a MetaHuman ID mesh (face archetype), neither records it with the Take Recorder. I tried to follow similar steps as to how the Mocopi tutorial advices.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Follow the process of creating a MetaHuman Identity and generate the facial mesh.
  2. Open LiveLink Hub and connect an Apple ARKit source successfully.
  3. Drag the facial mesh asset into the stage and add a Performer component. Configure it to accept the ARKit subject. Make sure the LiveLinkHub Connected message is displayed.
  4. Alternatively, try to use the Take Recorder adding a Source From LiveLink.

Expected Result

The mesh should replicate the facial movements captured with ARKit. If followed up to Step 4, the Take recorded should contain keyframes matching the captured animation.

Observed Result

Nothing happens in real time. The Take recorded has no keyframes.

Platform(s)

PC

Additional Notes

I’m not sure if there’s something I missed like another component that needs to be added to the Skeletal Mesh, but I tried to follow the Mocopi tutorial.

I should note that if I pre-record the performance and export the animation from MetaHuman Performance asset, it works correctly.
