Summary
When scrolling through the list of settings for a device, if the mouse cursor happens to hover above an option that accepts a custom number, the keypad automatically appears with no other input. No clicking of the mouse or any other input is required besides either scrolling or moving the mouse physically. This makes it infuriating to edit most devices. On top of this, when you close the keypad, the mouse position is set to be in one of the corners of the screen.
When attempting to create a map, simply going through the settings for a device is like traversing a minefield, having to very carefully grab the scrollbar and avoid hovering over any option that accepts a number, scrolling down to the setting I want to edit. If I do accidentally hover, I must press [ESC] to close the keyboard, and then carefully re-locate my mouse from whichever corner it was sent to. If it was sent to the left side, I must very carefully move my mouse to the right without touching the settings, because odds are one of them will do this again. Truly maddening. I first posted about this in the Creative discord on 2022-02-15, so this has been happening for almost two years now.
Steps to Reproduce
- Get on your favourite xbox, I play on a Series X.
- Grab a keyboard and mouse that’s compatible, my mouse is a Logitech M720 TRIATHLON if that matters, which I highly doubt.
- Hop in a Fortnite Creative island you can edit.
- Place a device with a numerical placement option, I will use the fancy newfangled Chair device.
- Open the customise settings menu for your device. (I see Chair Model, Interact Time, and Interaction Angle in the Basic Options of the chair device)
- Begin moving your mouse. Carefully hover over a setting with no numerical input (like “Chair Model”). Without a click, nothing happens. Splendid!
- Now, scroll the menu if necessary to move your mouse over an option with a numerical setting (like “Interact Time”). DO NOT click anything, or provide any other input than scrolling down or moving your mouse. Whoops! The Xbox on-screen keyboard has appeared as soon as you hover over the setting, prefilled with the current value of the setting (I see “0.0”). How absolutely infuriating!
- Feel free to press [ESC] to close the on-screen keyboard. Now start doing little circles with your mouse and try to find which corner it was randomly sent to.
Expected Result
Step 6 behaves like one would expect. Hovering the mouse simply indicates which setting I would like to change on a click.
Observed Result
Step 7 does not behave like one would expect. Merely hovering should not be enough input to invoke a disruptive input modal.
Step 8 takes this further, one expects the mouse to stay where it was when you close a modal. Note that the teleporting randomly applies to exiting any system UI, including normal keyboard inputs (like to edit the name of a device), or even closing the Xbox guide while the game is focused.
Platform(s)
Xbox Series X
Notes
I have recorded an evidence video but am unable to post it directly, and I figure the mods don’t want me to use an external link.
